Selected images from a series of ‘thalamuses’ that will be included in Neurocraft a Manitoba Craft Council and Canadian Association of Neuroscience exhibition that will feature work by craft artists collaborating with neuroscience researchers.
The work below has been informed by research undertaken by Dr. Gilbert Kerouc who is studying the role of the paraventricular nucleus of the thalamus (PVT). His research is exploring the PVT because of its connections to the key parts of the brain that are known to be involved in producing motivation and the behavioral reactions related to emotions. Specifically, he and other researchers have found that interfering with the normal activity of the PVT in animals can influence emotional behaviors like fear and anxiety.
